Public sector organisations are responding to the most challenging set of circumstances facing them in decades.
Smart Savings is a site VMware has created to share news, views and best practice as public sector organisations aim to cut costs and transform the way they deliver IT.
With the announcement of the government’s G-Cloud strategy in 2011, the debate over spending cuts has moved one step forward and there is now a stated intention to reduce public sector IT spending costs through the use of cloud computing.
In the third of the Smart Savings series of reports, we commissioned independent research among UK public sector IT leaders to produce a unique snapshot of cloud across UK public services – as seen by the people who shape policy, and who will have the job of delivering cloud.
The research aims to determine whether the Government is under-estimating the potential of G-Cloud cost savings, asking if the G-Cloud framework can deliver the benefits that it is promising and if cultural – rather than technical changes – are in truth the biggest barrier to Cloud take-up.
Available for download now is ‘Smart Savings III: G-Cloud Progress’ which explores the findings in more detail; register here to download the report.
We believe there is massive potential to save money through the smarter delivery of IT services. Each public sector body has the capability to drive costs down and become far more agile in the process by virtualising its IT infrastructure. We have several case studies of how organisations have achieved exactly this.
